¿Viajar con tu mascota en cabina? ¿Qué aerolíneas dejan a las mascotas viajar en cabina? Todo lo que necesitas saber para volar con tu perro o gato. ✈️🐾

Traveling with your pet in the cabin? Which airlines allow pets in the cabin? Everything you need to know about flying with your dog or cat. ✈️🐾

Traveling by plane with our pets can be a challenge, but fortunately, many airlines are adapting their policies so our four-legged companions can accompany us in the cabin. However, these policies vary depending on the animal's weight, the size of its carrier, and the airline. Here, we'll tell you everything you need to know about traveling with your dog in the cabin, including the options available for small dogs (under 10 kg) and the exceptions for larger dogs.

General rules for carrying your pet in the cabin

Most airlines allow your pet to be carried in the cabin if it meets certain requirements:

  1. Combined weight: Typically, the total weight of the dog and its carrier must be less than a limit that varies by airline (usually 8-10 kg).
  2. Carrier: It should be comfortable for the animal, with enough space for it to move around, and it should fit under the front seat.
  3. Documentation: You will need a veterinary passport for your pet, a health certificate, and up-to-date vaccinations.

However, some airlines have specific options that allow exceptions for larger dogs. Let's see which airlines allow small dogs to travel and which ones are ideal if your pet weighs over 10 kg.

Airlines that allow dogs over 10 kg in the cabin (exceptions)

If your dog weighs more than 10 kg, the options are more limited. However, some airlines make exceptions for specific breeds, emotional support animals (in certain cases), or private flights.

  1. Turkish Airlines:

    • Dogs up to 15 kg are allowed in the cabin, provided an additional fee is paid and the carrier is suitable.
    • Carrier: Maximum dimensions of 55 x 40 x 23 cm.
  2. TAP Air Portugal:

    • Dogs up to 14 kg (including carrier) are allowed in the cabin on selected flights.
    • Cost: From €35.
  3. US airlines (Delta, American Airlines, United):

    • In some cases, larger dogs are allowed in the cabin as emotional support or service animals, provided they meet strict regulations and have proper medical documentation.
  4. Private flights:

    • If you have a dog that exceeds the weight limit on commercial airlines, private flights are an option. These flights typically allow your pet to travel with you in the cabin without size restrictions, although the cost is considerably higher.
Avoid stress-related diarrhea: Traveling can upset your dog's digestive system. We recommend giving Fortebiotics before and during travel. Postbiotics help maintain a balanced gut and reduce the chances of diarrhea caused by the stress of travel.
